August 15, All night camp-out
Learn about bats, bugs and birds, explore the night sky and swap stories around the campfire in this special evening-time adventure for all the little night owls! Geared towards kids age 8 & up.
Aug 12-14 we will meet at Lewistown's spectacular Brewery Flats for outdoor evening fun. Cost is $15/day; sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 days. The week will end with an optional all night tent camp-out, complete with dinner and songs around the bonfire, on Aug. 15 (6pm-10am Aug 16). Cost for the camp-out is $30 (includes food).
Monday Aug 12 - All About Insects
Lean about the creepy crawlies that come out at night, and how COOL bugs can be! We’ll set up a black light insect collecting station, make our own bug jars and play glow in the dark games!
Tuesday Aug 13 - Birds and Bats
On this night of flight we’ll explore owls, nighthawks and beautiful bats. Wildlife Biologist Matt Comer will join us to demonstrate a bat calling device used in scientific research, and we’ll construct wooden bat houses to donate to the community.
Wednesday Aug 14 - The Night Sky
Cross your fingers for clear skies as we set up a powerful telescope to explore the stars! We’ll be joined by an amateur astronomer who will teach us many of the constellations and their origin stories, and show us planets, distant galaxies and more!
Thursday Aug 15 - Camp Out!
Cap off the week with a backyard tent camping experience to remember! We’ll play yard games until dark, cook a hearty meal on the bonfire, and end the evening with a big-screen outdoor cinema experience! Kids bring their own tent and bedding; friends and siblings are welcome to share a tent. Campers can be picked up the following morning (breakfast will be provided).
